Review of North Port, Florida

North Port, a nice place to live
Star Rating - 10/15/2018
I have lived in North Port (within the City Limits) for the past 14 years. At first, it was like most of the Country, economically depressed, Collapsing housing market, etc. Today & for the past several years, North Port is a place of economic growth, has side walks everywhere, a new plaza with popular stores like, TJ Max, Panera, Starbucks, Publix, Ross, Hobby Lobby, and more. In spite of the stats, I see more families moving here. Its a middle class town and I like that. The weather is typical with 9 months of hot temperatures, about 2 of those months with less humidity, then about 3 months of NICE temperatures. The rain is inconsistent from one year to the next. Sometimes too much, sometimes a drought. There are NO rough neighborhoods in North Port. If there are, its a secret, again I've lived here for 14 years. What we lack in North Port can usually be found about 20 to 30 minutes to the South or North, i.e. Movie theaters, Live Theater, Fishing and sports waters, beaches, etc. Its not overgrown, yet, but it could be on its way with new housing closing in from the surrounding towns. Traffic, well, as of this year we are having our main road (US41 aka "Tamiami Tr.") under an expansion project which has created some unusual traffic patterns BUT by the time it ends, I expect it will even out. Jobs: There is a mixture of Health, Dental, Retail, and Service industries to choose from, but there is NO manufacturing, local hospital, or educational opportunities (in North Port). The closest College is SCF, about 20 minutes to the North, then about 35 to 45 minutes for other choices like, USF (south campus) or Keiser College, etc.
We have one Public High School, Two Middle Schools, and I am only aware of one elementary school. We have our OWN Police department. We are NOT supported by the Counties Police but instead, have our own, and its been that way for a couple of decades or more. The local housing market is overpriced but I know that is based on demand, as SouthWest Florida is very popular but UNFORTUNATELY, a lot of that tends to be those retired or retiring. That translates to, its a very hard place to meet someone (young or middle aged people that aren't already in a relationship). North Port has a lot of family parks, and although I have never personally attended any community functions, the City is always advertising upcoming events for the residents and it families. The roads in general are in good condition. The neighborhoods i
